- Panama:
The Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the Technological University of Panama (UTP), Mgter. Alma Urriola de Muñoz, representing the Rector of UTP, Eng. Héctor Montemayor, met on May 24, 2022, with Dr. Juan Miguel Gómez Berbís from Carlos III University of Madrid, Spain. The meeting focused on discussing academic research and cooperation between both institutions, as well as exploring the possibility of developing doctoral programs.
Dr. Gómez Berbís, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Carlos III University of Madrid, mentioned that the purpose of the meeting was to collaborate on programs that promote research and are aimed at the academic and research dissemination by various universities.
“Our university is based on how all academic processes can be exchanged and improved through technology. For this purpose, we want to create a network of digital transformation institutes between Latin America and Europe, funded by European programs like Erasmus Plus or national programs related to the national financing plan by the government of Spain. We have met with several universities in Central America, including Guatemala, and universities in Colombia and Mexico, where concerns about potential academics and doctoral programs have been shared with the idea of working together. UTP is a critical point within this network, not only because of its critical mass and the quality of academic and research but also as one of the main nodes of the network,» he indicated.
