Kick-off  EUROGIA AI-SMECOT

University of Madrid Carlos III attended the AI-SMECOT (Artificial Intelligence based Smart Meter Grid and Communication Technologies for Critical Infrastructures) project. 

 
The aim of AI-SMECOT is the following. Sustainable urbanization and modern city life involves providing critical infrastructure services such as electricity, telecommunications, water, gas, and roads to support the basic livelihood of the citizens and businesses. Due to increasing urban population density in the world, sustainable infrastructure services have become indispensable means of effective management of work dissemination of smart cities. As the cities get smarter, the utility companies start to leverage smart meters where remote management of the meters allows companies start to where remote management of the meters allows companies to reduce the personnel and service vehicles on the field. The more frequent and reliable data collection is achived telecommunicationinfrastructure.


3rd SmartDelta plenary meeting

Västeras: March, 13th, 2024

University of Madrid Carlos III attended the third Smart Delta plenary hosted by Malärdalens University and ALSTOM. The first day of the meeting was focused on the Smart Delta Methodology, which has been released and pioneered by UC3M and  the remainder of the days were focused on technical presentations from the SmartDelta’s work packages.


CULTURATI Kick-off and International Event

We attended the CULTURATI Kick-off and International Event hosted in Ankara on March, 7-9th, 2023. 

CULTURATI is a Horizon Europe RIA project under grant agreement No 101094428, coordinated by Bilkent University, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Tourism and Hotel Management Department. CULTURATI is a global content platform that enables CCIs, creative professionals, and citizens to create content collectively for cultural heritage and arts across Europe. Consequently, CULTURATI curates content in its database and delivers the content in its database to end-user (consumers of cultural heritage and arts) in customized games (Q&A) and routes to attract and engage them with cultural heritage and arts more closely. CULTURATI can be used by venue and site-based CCIs (e.g. museums, art galleries, art fairs, biennial events, palaces, castles, historic town centres, cities), creative professionals (e.g. artists, authors, handcraft designers, freelancers, painters, film and animation producers) and citizens. Thus, CULTURATI will provide a platform for various groups in public (e.g. CCIs, social innovators, local, regional, and national authorities, sectoral partners, local SMEs, young people, minorities, disadvantaged groups and citizens) to include them in content creation for heritage and arts actively.


iDELTA Final Review

March, 29th- 30th
 
The ITEA project iDELTA held its final succesful review at the Campus de Puerta de Toledo, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. iDELTA  aimed at being the disruptive catalyst of Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT). Undoubtedly, DLT are a cutting-edge new breed of technologies with the potential to completely transform the way our society works. DLT will foster switching from the “Internet of information» era to the “Internet of Value» era, whereby decentralised and immutable contracts define business interactions and secure exchanges of information. I-DELTA aims to create an interoperable DLT based platform enhanced by AI, integrating with existing IT systems such as ERP and IoT applications.
 

UC3M hosts T3chFest 2023

We attended the T3CHFEST, Technology festival at University Carlos III of Madrid. T3chFest is an event organized by students and alumni on March, 1-3rd, 2023.


EUREKA Workshop at the Zamudio Park

We participated in the EUREKA workshop on Feb, 14th, organized by the Parque Tecnológico de Zamudio. Given that our group is participating in several EUREKA projects, we were invited to showcase our results and foster cooperation. 


2nd SmartDelta plenary meeting, Antalya, Turkiye

SmartDelta Antalya November 13, 2022

University of Madrid Carlos III attended the second Smart Delta plenary hosted by the project Turkish partners in Antalya, at the Orange Hotel. The first day of the meeting was focused on Use Case partners and requirements capture, whereas the remainder was focused on technical presentations from the SmartDelta’s work packages.

ITEA PO Days 2022

Helsinki (Finland)

Our group was awarded in the ITEA Awards during the ITEA PO Days 2022 in Helsinki (Finland) for our work at the OPTIMUM project. In the context of the project, OPC-UA and IIoT management was developed for a Smart Factory, making this project a spearhead of Industry 4.0 projects.

Enhancing Research and Academic Cooperation Between Latin America and Europe

Panama May 24, 2022

The Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the Technological University of Panama (UTP), Mgter. Alma Urriola de Muñoz, representing the Rector of UTP, Eng. Héctor Montemayor, met on May 24, 2022, with Dr. Juan Miguel Gómez Berbís from Carlos III University of Madrid, Spain. The meeting focused on discussing academic research and cooperation between both institutions, as well as exploring the possibility of developing doctoral programs.

Dr. Gómez Berbís, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Carlos III University of Madrid, mentioned that the purpose of the meeting was to collaborate on programs that promote research and are aimed at the academic and research dissemination by various universities.

“Our university is based on how all academic processes can be exchanged and improved through technology. For this purpose, we want to create a network of digital transformation institutes between Latin America and Europe, funded by European programs like Erasmus Plus or national programs related to the national financing plan by the government of Spain. We have met with several universities in Central America, including Guatemala, and universities in Colombia and Mexico, where concerns about potential academics and doctoral programs have been shared with the idea of working together. UTP is a critical point within this network, not only because of its critical mass and the quality of academic and research but also as one of the main nodes of the network,» he indicated.


Western Balkans-Spain Multilateral Opportunities Days

Prof. Dr. Juan Miguel Gomez Berbis attended this event organized by the Instituto de Comercio Exterior (ICEX) to enhance research opportunities and collaboration in EU projects with Balkan partners.  Hosted in Belgrade, it implied a number of meetings with cutting-edge ICT stakeholders. 


University of Madrid Carlos III hosted the first plenary meeting

University of Madrid Carlos III hosted the first plenary meeting in Campus Puerta de Toledo. This was the first time for the SmartDelta consortium to meet face-to-face. The first day (11th May 2022) of the meeting was focused on use-case presentations from the industrial partners. In contrast, the second day was mainly focused on technical presentations from the SmartDelta’s work packages.
